The Sundown Audio X-10″ v.3 series is the entry into the “ultra-high excursion” suspension and frame designs. They all feature our custom tooled and patented frames.
The Sundown U Series is our premier “standard suspension” woofer series. The all-new U v.2 improves on the already incredible performance of its predecessor.
We start with a double-stacked / 9.44” wide Y35 grade ferrite magnet system (3/4” wider than the v.1) coupled to a one-piece, bumped T-Yoke and a 0.6” thick top-plate. Just as with our other high-end subwoofers we also add a very thick (5mm thickness) aluminum shorting ring inside the magnets to reduce static inductance and level out inductance over stroke. The v.2 adds a pole-cap aluminum shorting ring which doubles as a heat-sink and airflow guide. The U v.2 series motor also features a 0.6” long pole-extension to keep the coil under control at high levels of excursion.

The X v.3 series is the entry into the Sundown Audio “ultra-high excursion” suspension and frame designs. They all feature our custom tooled and patented frames (US Patent Numbers D691596, D691597, D691598, and D741841).
We mate these new platforms to a triple stacked 225mm (8.86”) diameter motor structure featuring a hyper-extended pole and extreme clearances (allowing up to 4″ p-p travel before mechanical bottom). This motor drives a 3″ diameter 4-layer flat aluminum coil wound on a thick aluminum former to incredible levels of excursion. This is the same coil design utilized in the NS v.3 and Z v.5 series in the past. It is a proven coil with monstrous power handling potential. The combination of coil and updated motor for the X v.3 series brings its performance in terms of motor force to about 85% of the level of the previous generation Z v.5 series! So this makes the X v.3 an incredible value.
The Z v.6 is the second step up in Sundown’s “ultra-high excursion” subwoofer lineup after the X v.3 series and replaces the world-famous Z v.5 series. All models (10,12,15,18) feature our custom tooled and patented frames (US Patent Numbers D691596, D691597, D691598, and D741841).
Sundown mates these new platform frames to a quad stacked 240mm (9.45”) diameter motor structure with a total magnet stack height of 100mm (3.94”) featuring a hyper-extended pole and extreme clearances (allowing over 4″ p-p travel before mechanical bottom effectively making it bottomless). Compared to the X v.3 motor both the top & back plates are thicker allowing for even more magnetic strength and excursion potential. For the Z v.6 the top plate is another 5mm thicker than even the outgoing Z v.5 series!
